Woven House

Woven House

1300 sq. ft. Residence

An unmistakably Indian home, drawn in earth. Terracotta lime-plaster dados wrap the living and dining spaces, capped by a hand-painted Warli-style frieze that runs like a thread through every room — figures, birds and grain motifs kept small enough to read as texture rather than decoration. Above it, walls stay chalky and pale so the colour never crowds. The furniture answers in the same language: dark-stained wood frames with cane backs, rust and burgundy upholstery, kilim-patterned cushions, woven bamboo pendants over the dining table, turned-wood columns framing an open shelf and a niche for the family idol.

The kitchen sits behind a soft-arched opening — deep olive cabinetry against brick-red glazed tile, black counters and a fluted white shutter — so the warmest, busiest room in the plan reads as a framed picture from the sofa. A pink-veined stone panel behind the television and brass globe sconces add the polish; grey stone floors keep the whole thing cool underfoot.

The intent was contemporary craft rather than nostalgia: traditional motifs, handmade finishes and Indian silhouettes composed with a modern restraint, so the home feels rooted without ever feeling like a set.
